Now
that you have narrowed down your keyword/phrase choices its time to test
them. Go to the search engines and perform a search.
Assuming
your web site is indexed with the search engine, does your web site come
up in the top 30? If so, then you know that keyword/phrase is a keeper.
Is
your competition there as well? If so, then again you know that the keyword/phrase
is a keeper.
How
many other sites come up for that particular keyword or phrase? The fewer
sites that come up for that particular keyword the more likely your site
can obtain a top position. However, you must check the quality of the
other matches if there are few. You don't want to use a keyword/phrase
that will bring up a lot of sites that your targeted audience would have
no interest. On the other hand, if thousands of sites come up then you
probably want to refine that particular keyword/phrase as it may be a
bit too common.
Deciding
which keywords/phrases to use will take some effort. However, you will
find that by choosing the right ones targeted traffic to your web site
will increase.
